Fire can devastate both communities and the landscapes that surround them. After the burn there is typically little vegetation left to stabilize the soil. HMI has the products and large-scale expertise needed to maintain hillsides and water sheds to reduce the impact of fire related damage.
PROJECT PROFILE
In Santa Barbara, CA, the Jesusita fire storm burned over 8,700 acres of terrain, destroying 80 homes. Nearly 15,000 people were affected by evacuations and/or damages with over 30 injured firefighters. Once the county created a plan to contain the fire and protect the water shed, they entrusted HMI’s hydro-mulch as the solution. Over 3.5 million gallons was dropped by air over 13 days, protecting the water shed from precipitation damage. This solution was proven to work just one month later, when Santa Barbara County had its heaviest day of rainfall in recorded history.
